W. T. Smith Lumber Company (Chapman, Ala.)
W. T. Smith founded his company in the late nineteenth century. In 1905 it was purchased by the McGowin family who retained ownership until 1965, when it was sold to the Union Camp Paper Corporation (New Jersey).
At its height, under the leadership of Greeley Sr. and Jr., Floyd, Earl and Julian McGowin, the company had amassed over 200,000 acres of forest and a company town at Chapman, Ala., for its employees.
