Victor Clay Barringer (1827-1896) was born in Cabarrus County, N.C., earned his degree from the University of North Carolina in 1848, and was married to Maria Massey. He was a lawyer, state senator, Confederate soldier, and professor at Davidson College. He later served as a judge in the International Court of Appeals in Alexandria, Egypt, 1874-1894. He died in Washington, D.C.
