Adkins was a student at Bridgewater State College in 1985.

Conservationist Rosalie Edge was born in 1877, married Charles Noel Edge, and lived in Europe until 1913. Returning to the U.S., Edge became involved in the woman suffrage movement; in 1922 she was the treasurer of the Woman's Suffrage Party. Her interest in birdwatching led her into the conservation movement: she was active in the movement to reform the Audubon Society, and for thirty years was president of the Emergency Conservation Committee.
