Born in 1926 in Amarillo, Texas, Greer attended Texas State College for Women and the University of Texas before her 1948 marriage to Rushton Calhoun Greer. In 1977, she and her brother, George Monroe Autry, Jr. ("King"), edited and published MUCH OBLIGED, a collection of the writings of their father, George Monroe Autry, noted West Texas printer and folklorist from the 1930s through the 1950s.
