Boswell, James, 1806-1857
Variant namesSir James Boswell (1807-1857), grandson of the biographer James Boswell, inherited the barony of Auchinleck in 1822 after his father's death in a duel. He married Jessie Jane Montgomerie Cuninghame in 1830, and the couple had two daughters. As the entail on Auchinleck recognized only male heirs, Sir James brought suit to break it, and succeeded in 1852.
