A nurse, Lee was director of nursing and associate nursing dean with the Columbia University Faculty of Medicine. Educated at Radcliffe and trained in nursing at Vassar College and the Presbyterian Hospital Nursing School in New York City, Lee taught at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Boston, and Teachers College, Columbia University before assuming an administrative position at the Presbyterian Hospital Nursing School. Interested in the history of nursing, Lee was a member of the Committee on Historical Source Material in Nursing of the National League for Nursing, curator of the Florence Nightingale collection, and author of two volumes on the history of nursing at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center.
