Michael Gordon Mullins (1937-1990) received his B.S. in Agriculture from the University of Reading, England (1959), a postgraduate diploma in Agriculture from Cambridge University (1960), and his doctoral degree in the Faculty of Science (1964) from the University of London, England.
He then worked for three years in the division of Horticultural Research of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) in Adelaide, South Australia, spent one year in the Department of Agriculture Science at the University of Oxford, England, and returned to CSIRO in 1969.
Mullins served as the Foundation Professor of Horticulture at the University of Sydney, Australia before moving to the University of California, Davis in 1987 to accept the position of Chair of the Department of Viticulture and Enology.
Mullins passed away on November 13, 1990.
