Joseph Willliamson was born in Belfast, Me., 5 Oct. 1828. He attended Bowdoin College, graduating in 1849. He received a Doctor of Literature degree from Bowdoin in 1896. He began his legal practice in 1852, serving as a lawyer, Belfast police court judge, and Belfast city solicitor. He wrote several books on the state of Maine. He served as corresponding secretary of the Maine Historical Society until his death in 1902.
