Roland Henry Stock was born on January 6, 1889, in Deerfield, Michigan, the son of John L. and Julia (Brinker) Stock. In 1913 he began working for the United States Reclamation Service in St. Ignatius, Montana. His first assignment was doing a survey of the land flooded by the Kicking Horse Reservoir, east of Charlo. He later worked on other projects. Roland Stock married Nell Ruth Magnuson in Kalispell on September 6, 1916.
He resigned from the Reclamation Service in February 1917 and returned to Michigan. In August 1917 he received a commission as a First Lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers. After the war he worked as a civil engineer in Aberdeen, Washington, in the 1930s. Stock died in Laguna Hills, California, on December 11, 1976.
