The Associate Alumnae of Barnard College (AABC) was organized in 1895. In 2002, the name of the organization was changed to the Alumnae Association of Barnard College. The organization has two primary aims: to keep graduates in contact with the College and with each other; and to provide financial help for the College and its students. Since 1898, the group has had a representative on the Board of Trustees. In 1899 the alumnae set up the Student Loan Committee which has provided tuition funds to worthy candidates in the form of loans and scholarships. In the late 1920's the AABC raised funds for the purchase of Barnard Camp, a country retreat which operated from that time until as late as 1974. The AABC has published a magazine since 1912. Originally called Barnard College Alumnae Bulletin, it is currently called Barnard and is published quarterly. In 1958, Barnard Alumnae Magazine received the Robert Sibley Magazine Award from the American Alumnae Council. The AABC works with the Alumnae Affairs office of the College.
