The Select Committee on Children and Youth was created by the 95th General Assembly in 1987. The committee was responsible for defining and establishing the components, guidelines, and objectives of a comprehensive state policy to ensure and promote the present and future well-being of Tennessee's children. The committee was composed of nine members of the Senate and nine members of the House of Representatives selected by the speakers.
