By an act of the General Assembly approved April 5, 1980, the Division of Legislative Automated Systems was established as a legislative agency. The Director is appointed and confirmed by the General Assembly and serves at the pleasure of the Committee on Rules of the House of Delegates and the Senate.
The mission of the agency is to operate an automated data processing center and to provide computing and programming services for the House, Senate and the Division of Legislative Services. The agency provides all the printing of bills for the General Assembly and operates an online information service giving the status of bills through over 300 computers located throughout the state. The agency also operates the Bill Room in the General Assembly to furnich copies of bills to legislators.
