Richard A. Rocker was born in New York City, N.Y. on August 15, 1911. At the time of his enlistment in New York City on June 16, 1942, he had completed four years of college, was single and working as a telephone or electrical power lineman. He joined Company E of the 87th Infantry Regiment at Fort Lewis, Wash. During his time with the 10th Mountain Division, Rocker also served with the Mountain Training Group, the 10th Medical Battalion, and the 87th Infantry Regiment. With the Mountain Training Group, Rocker participated in the legendary Leadville to Aspen trek in the Spring of 1944. In italy, he received a battelfield promotion to 2nd Lieutenant. Rocker was wounded in action and received a Silver Star Medal for his actions near Mount Croce on April 15, 1945. He died on July 27, 1994 in Sun City, Ariz.
