Florida Constitution Revision Commission
Variant namesThe 1968 Constitution contains a continuous revision clause providing for the revision of the Constitution within the first ten years after approval, and a revision every twenty years thereafter (Article XI, Section 2). The Constitution specifies a thirty-seven member commission be selected to prepare revisions. The Constitution Revision Commission was created in 1977 and its proposed revision were rejected by the electorate in November 1978.

The Florida Constitution Revision Commission was created in 1965 (Ch. 65-561, Laws), culminating a movement begun with the publication by the Florida Bar of "A Proposed Constitution for Florida" in 1947. The 1965 Commission was created for the purpose of preparing recommendations for the revision of the 1885 Constitution. The Commission was composed of thirty-seven members.
The Commission first met in December, 1965. The full Commission met during January, March, and April, 1966; study committees met from January to June, 1966. Public hearings were held in Miami, Tampa, Orlando, Pensacola, and Jacksonville in July, 1966. The full Commission met again in a Constitutional Convention from November, 1966 to January, 1967 to create the final draft for the Legislature. The Constitution was passed by the Legislature in July, 1968 and ratified by the electorate in November, 1968.
