Richmond, W. B. (William Blake), Sir, 1842-1921
Variant namesSir William Blake Richmond was a painter, designer, and sculptor. The son of artist George Richmond, he studied art at the Royal Academy. He became a prolific portrait artist, painting Browning, Darwin, Gladstone, and the Liddell sisters, and was also proficient in landscape and historical painting. His designs tended to be traditional, based on classical themes, and his popularity declined in the 20th century as new styles emerged.
