Junior Farmers' Association of Ontario (University of Guelph)

Hide Profile

Following six weeks short courses in York, Peel, Durham and Middlesex Counties in 1914, Junior Farmer Improvement Associations were formed. A year later, Junior Institutes came into being. Many of these clubs banded together as County Junior Farmer and Junior Institute Associations. The Junior Farmers' Association of Ontario was organized in April 1944. The first Provincial Junior Farmer Camp was held in 1947 on Lake Simcoe. In 1948 the camp moved to the YMCA's "Geneva Park" facilities on Lake Couchiching, and contined there until 1974. From 1975-1992 the Camp was at the Bark Lake Leadership Centre at Irondale; a similar camp was held in different locations, for varying shorter time periods, as JFAO Camp. The 1994 camp was cancelled.
