Greathead, Joseph.

Born in England in 1798, Greathead was a chemist by occupation. In 1853 he emigrated to Australia with his wife and younger children. During the voyage on the the Diana, he acted as ship's doctor. Greathead was one of the first missionaries to be appointed by the Melbourne City Mission when it was founded in 1854. After his missionary work, Greathead returned to his pharmaceutical career, opening a dispensary in East Collingwood.
