Southern Student Organizing Committee. North Carolina State University Chapter.

Hide Profile

The Southern Student Organizing Committee, or SSOC, was an association of young Southerners dedicated to building a democratic society based on peace, as well as racial and sexual equality. The organization advocated development of a society in which free speech, unfettered inquiry, and economic cooperation would reflect a truly democratic America. The North Carolina State University chapter was organized with intent to change the basic injustices members saw within the existing power structure, both on campus and in the larger society. The organization was active during the late 1960s, but has since disbanded.
