Raleigh Anthony Suarez, Jr. was born in Plaquemine, Louisiana on January 2, 1925. He recieved his B.S., M.A., and Ph.D. from Louisiana State University. Employed by McNeese State University, he served as Associate Professor of History, Department Head, Dean of the School of Humanities (1962-1972), and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Suarez also served as president of the Louisiana Historical Association in 1965 and has honored by the Association for the publication of his article in their journal of Louisiana History. From 1946 to 1998, Suarez was married to Ellen Turcan; and from 2003 until his death, Suarez was to married to Loraine Zimmermann. Suarez died in Lake Charles on April 22, 2004.
