The Davidson family founded Day's Jewelers in 1914. Capt. Harry Davidson started the business as a pawnshop and auction center in Portland, Me. Soon, his three sons joined in the family business and helped expand the store to 21 locations throughout New England. By 1988, the remaining sons operating the chain retired and sold the business. The Davidson family was among the prominent members of the Jewish community and business community.
