Montana economic development agency.
The Montana State Planning Board was created in 1934 to prepare a comprehensive plan for the conservation of water. By the mid-1950s, the agency had become primarily a statistics-gathering and economic development agency. In 1967 the name of the board was changed to the Montana Department of Planning and Economic Development. The functions of the department were transferred to the Montana Dept. of Community Affairs in 1972. In 1970 the agency approved the building of the Big Sky ski resort.
