Richardson & Robbins Company
Variant namesAround 1855 Alden B. Richardson and James W. Robbins, owners of a tin and stove store in Dover, Del., began to produce canned goods. These grew into a highly successful Richardson & Robbins Company, makers of canned fruits, vegetables, and meats. The firm also had operations in California for several years after World War I. The company was purchased by William Underwood Company in 1959 and continued to operate until 1975. Richardson & Robbins purchased the Dover Gas Works in 1867 and in 1881 this was incorporated as Dover Gas Light Company.
