National Boxing Association (NBA) World Featherweight Champion Francisco Arreola was born on December 17, 1965 in Guadalajara, Mexico. His boxing career started in his hometown when he was six years old. Several years later, in 1975, Arreola and his family moved to the United States.

As an amateur boxer, Arreola had 213 wins and a host of championships. He participated in the 1984 Olympic trials, in which he fought for the United States. Arreola became a professional boxer in 1986. In 1990, he won the Mid-American Featherweight Championship and the Florida State Featherweight Title. In 1992, he won the World Boxing Council (WBC) Continental Americas Title.
