The Friends of the University of Nevada library was established in 1952 by the University of Nevada Library Advisory Committee. The purpose was to maintain an association of persons interested in books, to assist in bringing to the university materials beyond the usual budget, and thus to contribute toward gaining for the state and its citizens a worthy collection of the reords of art, literature and science. Robert A. Griffen was elected as the first president of the Friends.
