Lieutenant General (LTG) Sidney T. Weinstein was raised in Elmer, New Jersey. He received his commission from the U.S. Military Academy in 1956 and joined the infantry. From December 1956 to July 1959, Weinstein served 4 assignments with the 101st Airborne Division. He took a course at the U.S. Army Intelligence School and began serving in research and intelligence in November 1959. From March 1967 to June 1968, Weinstein was stationed in Vietnam, as G2 Advisor to 23rd Infantry Division, 525th Military Intelligence Group, U.S. Army Vietnam.

From February 1980 to his retirement on 30 September 1989, Weinstein served in the following positions: Executive to the Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence, U.S. Army; Deputy Commanding General for Support, U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command; Commander, U.S. Army Intelligence Center/Commandant, U.S. Army Intelligence School; and Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, U.S. Army. Throughout his career, Weinstein furthered his education at the Defense Intelligence School, the U.S. Army Intelligence School, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, the University of Rochester, and the U.S. Army War College.
