Alexander McMichael was born in Ireland around 1742 and later moved to Pennsylvania; he opened a general store near Philadelphia before 1770 and later lived in Berks County and Northumberland County. He served in the Revolutionary War. McMichael married Martha Johnson in Philadelphia in September 1766; they had at least eight children, including David M., John (ca. 1775-1843), Marmaduke (b. ca. 1770), and Mary (1776-1861). Alexander McMichael died in 1850, at the age of 108.
Marmaduke McMichael served as a lieutenant during the War of 1812 and later became the master of a Masonic lodge in Philadelphia. John McMichael moved to Indiana with his wife, Mary McAffee.
