Alfred Harbage (1901-1976) was an influential American author and academic. The New York Times Book Review named him the "foremost American Shakespeare scholar." He taught at both Columbia and Harvard, and was appointed to the Cabot professorship in 1960. Harbage also was the general editor for the Pelican editions of Shakespeare's works, published by Penquin Books. Some of his books include "As They Liked It: An Essay on Shakespeare and Morality," and "William Shakespeare: A Reader's Guide."
