Honorary military ogranization dedicated to the preservation of military history and traditions; Gate City Guard organized in 1857 as a drill company; 1859 made part of the state military service; 1861 mustered into Confederate service as 1st Georgia Infantry, Company F; reorganized for promotion of peace; 1893 name changed to Old Guard of the Gate City Guard.
