Francis Edgar Johnson spent 36 years on the faculty in the Mathematics Department at George Washington University (GWU). He received his bachelor's degree from GWU and a Master's and his Doctorate from the University of Illinois. He was a fellow of the Washington Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Mathematics Association of America. He was born in 1897 and died in 1978 at the age of 80.
