Walter Reed Memorial Association.

Hide Profile

Incorporated in the District of Columbia in April, 1904, the Walter Reed Memorial Association was formed to raise $25,000 for two purposes. First, interest accrued from the principal sum would be given to Major Reed's widow and daughter for the duration of their lives. After their deaths the Association would devote the funds to creating a permanent memorial to Reed in the District of Columbia. The association reached its $25,000 goal in 1907 and continued to serve Mrs. Reed until her death in 1950 and Blossom Reed until her death in 1964. The Association completed its last task with the dedication of a sculptured memorial at Walter Reed Memorial Hospital on November 21, 1966.
