Cascade County Bar Association

Hide Profile

The Cascade County Bar Association was formed in 1892. The object of the organization was to advance the science of jurisprudence, promote the administration of justice, secure proper legislation, uphold the honor of the legal profession, and encourage cordial intercourse among the members. In order to be eligible for membership in the association, an attorney had to be a member in good standing of the Montana Bar Association and actively practicing law in Cascade County. Every year on 12 Feb., they association held its annual meeting to elect officers. There were several committees formed and renewed each year. Some dissolved over the years or were renamed. Annual dues were collected at this time and were increased as the years progressed. The Legislature was always of primary interest and the association generally lobbied for any changes it deemed necessary. The association belonged to the Montana State Bar Association as well as the American Bar Association. Because the School of Law at the University of Montana, Missoula was of great interest to the membership, a scholarship was given almost every year by the association.
