Penn State Glee Club

Hide Profile

The Penn State Glee Club was founded in 1888 under the leadership of Dr. George C. Butz. The ensemble was originally known as the Penn State Glee Club and Banjo and Mandolin Society and performed choral music that reflected the styles and tastes of the time. The club has since evolved as a men's choir specializing in music from the 16th through 20th centuries, their repertoire including both sacred and secular compositions. The Glee Club also includes two small ensembles, the Hi-Lo's and the Varsity Quartet, which perform popular songs and barbershop standards, respectively. The club has performed at several venues across the nation and the world, the most notable of which include a tour of Trinidad and Tobago, and performances at the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris and the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
