Maryland congressman, RNC Chair, Secretary of Interior and Commerce.

Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Morton left for Maryland in 1950, to seek a political career apart from his brother Thruston, who represented Kentucky in both the U.S. House and Senate. Rogers Morton was elected as a U.S. representative from Maryland in 1962, serving until 1970. While in the House, he also served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (1969-1970). In 1970, Rogers Morton stepped down from his house seat in order to accept the appointment of Secretary of the Interior under Richard Nixon. He held this post through the 1972 Presidential election and during the Watergate scandals. In 1975, he accepted the post of Secretary of Commerce and then resigned that position in 1976 to become advisor to Gerald Ford's unsuccessful campaign for President.
