George W. Hoffman was one of three original members of the faculty of the Department of Geography at the University of Texas at Austin. He served as Chair of the department from 1978-1982. Hoffman wrote and edited numerous books and periodicals on geography. In memory of Hoffman and his wife, the University established the Viola S. Hoffman and George W. Hoffman Lectureship in Liberal Arts and Fine Arts.
