Middle Bank Copper Works and refinery
Lead was first smelted at the Middle Bank Works in the Lower Swansea Valley by the firm of Chauncey Townsend and Company 1555-1764. By 1765 copper was being smelted at the works. Williams Foster and Company and Pascoe Grenfell and Company Limited operated the works from 1893 until 1924.
