Sereno Stansbury Pratt (1858-1915) was born in Westmoreland, New York. He entered the newspaper business after graduating from the University of Vermont. During his career, Pratt worked for the Commercial Bulletin, the Journal of Commerce, the New York World, and the Baltimore Sun. He later became the Financial Editor for the New York Times and Editor in Chief for the Wall Street Journal. In 1908, he was elected Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce of New York City and remained in that position until his death in 1915. Pratt resided on Carroll Street in Brooklyn.
