For two seasons, spring, summer and fall, of 1939 and 1940, a scientific study and archaeological expedition was conducted in the Columbia basin area from the Grand Coulee Dam to the Canadian border and on the lower Spokane and Kettle rivers. The survey was under the direction of the Eastern Washington State Historical Society.
