Thomas D. Church (1902-1978) was a California landscape architect credited with the creation of the "modern garden" style. Educated at UC Berkeley and at Harvard, he practiced in the Bay Area for over fifty years, completing more than two hundred projects across the United States. In addition to the residential gardens that formed the bulk of his work, Church designed large corporate landscapes and worked as a consultant to Stanford and the University of California, Berkeley and Santa Cruz campuses.
