Zachariah Cox of Montgomery County, Georgia, was an associate of Zachariah Cox and Company, also known as the Tennessee Company, and of the Georgia Company (both Yazoo companies). Cox led projects to settle Georgia and Tennessee frontier lands, facing opposition by regional Cherokee and Chickasaw Indians. In 1790, the State of Georgia sold property to Cox and John Strother which the state had claimed south of the Tennessee River. The Georgia claim was protested by the Cherokee Indians who also laid a claim on the lands.
From the description of Zachariah Cox affidavit, 1797. (Georgia Historical Society). WorldCat record id: 46671655
