First version, consisting of the Finale movement alone, composed originally for string orchestra and two pianos 1932. First performance Juilliard Concert Hall, New York, 6 May 1932, the composer and Nuta Dince pianos. Second version, consisting of the three movements above, still for string orchestra and two pianos, first performed Station WJZ, New York, 23 January 1936, Frank Black's String Symphony, the composer and Marion Morrey pianos. Final version completed and published in 1938, recast for string orchestra and one piano. First performance Cincinnati, 31 March 1939.
