William Stewart Ingham graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1898. In 1905 he was appointed to the position of librarian at the Carnegie Public Library, Laramie, Wyoming. He was also a member, and frequently secretary, of the Laramie Literary Club, a men’s organization modeled on the Young Men’s Literary Club of Cheyenne. He was a member of the University of Wyoming Board of Trustees from 1911 to 1920 and a member of the Wyoming State Library Association in 1915.
