Woolford Bales Baker (1892-1993), was a biology professor at Emory University. He received degrees from Henderson-Brown College (A.B., 1919), Emory University (M.S., 1920), and Columbia University (Ph.D., 1926). Baker spent the majority of his career at Emory University as a biology professor and department chair. Because of his concern for the natural landscape surrounding Emory, he earned the nickname "chief forester." Baker was later instrumental in the founding of the Fernbank Forest along with Emily Stewart Harrison. The Baker Woodlands on Emory's campus is named for him.
