Lila Kelly is listed as a "student" in Oakland city directories between 1895 and 1898. After that date she is no longer resident in Oakland and by 1910 she was evidently living in Hayward. A "Mrs. Lila G. Kelly Provost" is listed in the University of California Alumni Directory as having attended classes there in 1909. One of the two letters to Miss Kelly in this collection is from a Dern J. Dever, who is apparently an employee of the Pacific Mail Steamship Line and a suitor (1895). The other letter is a chatty news letter from a friend employed in Oakland as a nurse (1910).
