Born in New Orleans in 1892 and a 1910 graduate of that city's Loyola College, Basil Thompson was a poet and a prominent figure in the literary circles that flourished in New Orleans after World War I. His works were published in such magazines as The smart set and The nation and in two slim volumes, Estrays and Auguries. In 1920 he was a founder and subsequently was an editor of The double dealer, a small but influential literary magazine based in New Orleans and published from 1921 to 1926. He died in New Orleans in 1924.
