Bambridge, William, 1819-1879.

Educated at Norwich, chorister in Norwich Cathedral. Took up teaching, and in 1841 went with Bishop Selwyn to New Zealand in clerical capacity. After 6 years he returned to England and became artist photographer to Queen Victoria. Painted miniatures and oils, and published pen portraits in lithographs. Married Sophia Thorrington, of Windsor, in 1841. Waimate missionary; father of William Samuel Bambridge (born 1842).
