During DePaul University's early days, various colleges and schools held separate commencement ceremonies. The earliest date reflected in these files is of a mid-year commencement in 1932; the earliest summer commencement program included is from 1936. In 1942, there were five commencement ceremonies: February (mid-year), June (annual), August (summer), September (fall), and December (considered fall). In 1985, DePaul University began to hold commencement on two consecutive dates in June. During 1985-1993, colleges could and did hold their commencement on different days. The only consistent practice was that the College of Law graduated on Saturday and College of Liberal Arts & Sciences graduated on Sunday. Other colleges varied.

Founded during the DePaul Centennial (1998-1999), the Lincoln Park Community Research Initiative (LPCRI) is a joint effort of Lincoln Park community organizations and DePaul University to collect documents and artifacts on the history of the Lincoln Park community. In partnership with community organizations, the intention is to strengthen the archive by adding records of neighborhood groups and their members. In order to encourage contributions to the archives, LPCRI also develops and supports research, publications, and exhibits on Lincoln Park, especially through an annual program of small grants. Spring and Fall programs celebrate and examine the diverse cultural and political issues of the community, which foster continued interest in the shared history of the community and the university.

The Lincoln Park Study Group, formed in 1983, was composed of faculty members from DePaul University representing various fields of study. The focus of their research was to document the "most significant social and cultural factors that have helped sculpt the landscape" of the Lincoln Park neighborhood. Also integrated into the study was a photographic documentary of Lincoln Park residents in their homes and businesses by Professor Charles S. Suchar of the Sociology Department. The photographs were displayed in DePaul's Stuart Center Gallery in October 1985.
