Historical Background

The 1972 EPDA (Education Professions Development Act) institute "Challenge: Women in Higher Education" was the second institute funded by the U.S. Department of Education in response to the women's movement in higher education. The University of California, Irvine was one of three universities where seven-day intensive trainings were held. Lucille Keuhn served as a regional director for the institute. At the time she was the Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs for Program Development at UC Irvine.
