Variant namesProject Plowshare, which originated at the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory of the University of California, Livermore, in 1956, was concerned with the peaceful uses of nuclear explosions in excavations and other engineering projects. Paul Kruger, professor emeritus in the Department of Civil Engineering at Stanford University and a fellow of the American Nuclear Society, was involved in Plowshare research and teaching.
