Henry Ellis (1721-1806), hydrographer and explorer, was the second royal governor of Georgia. Born in Ireland, he came to Savannah in 1757. Due to poor health, Ellis left Georgia in 1760. He returned to England and died in Naples, Italy, in 1806.
