Prominent Kaskaskia, Ill. lawyer and politician, Elias Kent Kane married to Felicite Peltia, had four children survive to adulthood, one of whom, Elizabeth, married William Bissell who was elected governor of Illinois in 1856. Elias K. Kane served at the first Illinois constitutional convention, as Illinois Secretary of State, 1818-1822 and in the U.S. Senate from 1825-1835. His sons, Elias K., served in the Mexican War and Louis, as private secretary to Governor Bissel. Daughter, Maria married W.C. Kinney, a lawyer and son of an ex-governor.
